Noah enjoys writing because it allows him to express himself on a deeper level than most of the other things that he does. He also loves using metaphors and symbolism. He thinks that writing poetry helps him to be more of an individual. He says it is very important to be unique, and writing helps Noah to achieve that. His favorite books are the Lord of the Rings books, and he really enjoyed reading 1984 in English 12 this year. Noah’s favorite bands are the Doors and Cream. His inspiration to write poetry came from was when he started to get into Jim Morrison’s poetry. Noah says he enjoys submitting to The Valley Labyrinth because it allows others to see a side of him that they wouldn’t normally get to see. Thank you for your submissions, Noah! Best of luck in the future! Jocelyn Hittle (10th Grade) heavily enjoys writing poetry and painting. Her other hobbies include theater and performance, singing and writing music, and spending time outside; fishing and hunting. Her favorite subjects in school are science, specifically physics and chemistry, and English. She says that when she discovered poetry and writing, she discovered a space where she could create anything and everything she desired. You could say writing became a drug to her, it was intoxicating and she wrote, and continues to write, almost every single day. She likes writing because it gives her a world where she has complete freedom to do what she wishes, to say what she thinks needs to be said, and to have a feeling like she has a voice in the world. She enjoys submitting to The Valley Labyrinth because it is a lovely experience to have when entering into a world where people read your work. As a freshman, she greatly appreciated the feeling of support and acceptance from other writers, and she continues to submit because she loves to contribute some of that to others. Jocelyn is a published poet; one piece in an online literary magazine and one in a poetry Quarterly used by high school teachers to teach poetry to their students. She primarily shares her poetry on an Instagram account (@breathingstanzas).
